Sand Treatment Therapy

Turpan’s annual sunshine time reaches to 3200 hours, frost free time reaches to 270 days, that is the reason that locals are quite fond of sand therapy which has a history of hundreds of years in Turpan. People lie or sit under sheds, burying their bodies in hot sand about 50C (122F) to 60C (140F). It is a good way to treat rheumatism and skin ailments.

Karez Underground Irrigation System

A karez is a horizontal underground gallery that conveys water from aquifers in pre-mountainous alluvial fans, to lower-elevation farmlands (see illustration 2 ). The water for the karez is provided by the mother well(s), which is sunk into the groundwater recharge zone. A karez transports water underground, usually surfacing in cultivated areas (see photograph 4 ). Putting the majority of the channel underground reduces water loss from seepage and evaporation. The Ancient City of Jiaohe is situated at Yar Town , 13 km west of Turpan City . In the Western Han Dynasty, this City served as the capital of ” Anterior State of Cheshi”, one of the 36 kingdoms in the West Region. Gaochang Ancient City

Ancient City of Gaocheng

Ancient City of Gaocheng is located near the “Flaming Mountains”, it is 46 kms southeast of the city of Turpan. Gaochang ancient city was built in the first century B.C; it was a key point on the ancient Silk Road, but after many changes in fortune over a period of 1,300 years, and under the jurisdictions of the Gaochang Prefecture, the Gaochang Kingdom and Huozhou Prefecture, the city was burnt down in wars in the fourteenth century. Grape Valley

Grape Valley Grape valley of Turpan is lacated western slope of the Flaming Mountain, northeast of Turpan city; it is about 15kms far from Turpan city. Bezeklik Thousand Buddha Caves

The Bizaklik Thousand-Buddha Caves is located ‘ Mutou Valley’ in the Flaming Mountains, which is 48 kilometers northeast of the Turpan city, twenty-two kilometers from the ancient city of Gaochang. They were called the Ningrong Grottoes in the Tang Dynasty. Read more »

Flaming Mountain

The Flaming Mountain is lying in the middle of the Turpan Depression and running from east to west is 98kms long, and 9km wide, and it is one of the branch ranges of the Tianshan Mountain. The average height of the flaming mountain is between 400 to 500 meters, and highest peak of the flaming mountain is 831.7 meters above sea level. Read more »
