Our trek from Karakul Lake to Mustagh Ata was an amazing adventure! Our guide, Tudajim, was extremely knowledgable about local life and happy to answer all of our questions. He was SO friendly with us, spoke excellent English, and by the end of the trek we felt like good friends. We went in July and it was a nice temperature outside for hiking, although very cool at night – so remember to bring some warm layers. The hiking was sometimes challenging because were were walking on loose stones or going up steep hills. However we had plenty of water, took breaks frequently, and our guide was very patient with us. The views along the way were breathtaking and well worth all the work. The hike on day 3 up to the glacier on Mustagh Ata was unlike anything I have ever seen. Our time staying with local families was very comfortable and full of delicious meals and insight into village life. Everywhere we stayed we were given warm blankets and tea and fed very well – they were even able to cook us homemade vegetarian food! The whole experience was great and I would highly recommend it.
