Dunhuang City is situated at the western end of Hexi Corridor in Gunsu Province of China. It borders with Shaanxi, Sichuan, Qinghai Province, Inner Mongolia, Ningxia Hui and Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Regions. Dunhuang is an ancient historical city which is rich in culture, ruins, and natural scenery that is why it is ‘Centre of Buddhist Art’, ‘Desert Oasis’, and ‘Western Pearl’ of China.

It has a population of 188,000 people which consist of Han, Hui, Tibetan, Dongxiang, Yugu, Bonan, Mongolian, Kazak, Tu, Salar and Manchu nationalities.
History
Dunhuang was founded by Emperor Wudi of Han Dynasty in 111 BC and became a prefecture in 117 BC. It was a major exchange point between China and outside world during the Han (206 BC-220) and Tang (618-907) by using the cross roads of two trading routes of the World Famous Silk Road.
