Jiya township in Lop County, Xinjiang is renowned for its Atlas Silk and is located about 15 km from Hotan city. In the Uyghur language the word atlas means “tie-dyed silk.” Among the traditional products of the Hotan region, Atlas Silk dates from 2,000 years ago.

The texture is soft, light and graceful, and the colors of Atlas Silk are vibrant, rich, and appear changeable. Traditional motifs of the Hotan region are portrayed in Atlas Silk fashions. The single silk factory in Jiya township invites you to observe local Uyghur people spinning, dyeing, and weaving Atlas Silk on traditional wooden looms. Both to satisfy local demand and the tastes of tourists, the factory produces not only customary women’s clothing of Uyghur design in various patterns, but also caps, hats, and scarves. For men, neckties and robes are made. The factory proudly displays the traditional artistic skill of the Uyghur people, and is not just a tourist attraction.
