Kashgar Sunday Market
Sunday market also called Yinggi Bazaar or Farm Trade Market in Uyghur language. It is located east of Kashgar city. Sunday market is the biggest market in central Asia; it has a history of more then two thousand years old.
As early as two thousand years ago it was used to be the place collecting and distributing center for goods. Nowadays, Sunday market is the biggest market in central Asia for the people to exchange the goods from China to Asia or vise versa. Sunday market is active everyday but Sunday is the special day for sellers and buyers. Sunday market has more then 20 section, from each section it is possible to find the thing which you are looking for. There is an idiom about Sunday market, which you can find everything you want to buy on Sunday from Sunday market except chicken milk (Uyghur) and Cows egg (English). The sections of Sunday market is headscarf section, Pakistani goods section, textiles section, dried fruits section, shoes for men and women section, spicy section, Carpets section, handicraft section, sweets section, stationary section, knives section, Uyghur hats section, bags section, musical instrument section, garment section, building material section, honey section, kitchen utensil section and so on……..
About few years ago, government extended and rebuilt the market, at that time they moved the livestock section of the market to the suburb of kashgar, it is bout 6kms east south of Kashgar city. Livestock market is also divided to sheep section, cattle’s section, donkeys section, goat section, horses section. Some times you also can see the camel and yak but not every Sunday.
There is no auction in both markets and price of the good is not fixed, so you can negotiate, people don’t mind to negotiating, it is the rule of the locals.
