South Mountain Scenic Spot is located to the south of Urumqi on the northern foot of Karawuquntag Mountain which is part of Tianshan Mountain. It is about 75, approximately 2 hours driving distance to Urumqi.
It is very big with West Baiyanggou, Juhuatai, East Baiyanggou, Mount Zhaobi, Miaoergou and Daxigou from west to east. The Kazaks usually spend their summer here between May and October and graze their herds.
It is great land for hiking with gushing valleys and waterfalls falling down the hillsides and the ginseng herb growing on the hillside. Tourist also have chance to visit Kazaks yurt, where the host welcome you in with fragrant milk tea, mare’s milk, cheese and roasted lamb. The Kazak people are hospitable and generous.
